Create a Command Prompt Shortcut on the Desktop

To create a desktop shortcut to the Windows XP Command Prompt:
  1. Right-click an open area of the desktop, click "New" and then click "Shortcut".
  2. In the field labelled "Type the location of the item", enter "C:/Windows/System32/cmd.exe" (without quotes).
  3. Click "Next" and give the shortcut a suitable name such as "Command Prompt".
  4. Click "Finish". A new "Command Prompt" shortcut should now be available on the Windows desktop.
  5. Double click the icon to open the Command Prompt window.
